Let Your Hair Down

I am on vacation this week or at least I booked this week off work.  Unfortunately, I still had to go to work most of Monday and a little bit on Tuesday.  There were time sensitive tasks to do.  Now, for the rest of the week, I am looking forward to letting my hair down and taking it easy.  This is a bit of a joke because I am bald.  Let your hair down means to relax or be carefree.

Example:  Now that she is retired, she can finally let her hair down and enjoy life.

Letting your hair down comes from the 17th century.  At that time, it was considered dirty, unruly, or uncivilized for a woman to go out in public with her hair down.  They were expected to keep their hair in an elaborate hairstyle.  It was only at the end of the day when they returned home that they could take out the hairdo and let their hair down.  It was also when they could just relax at home.  That sentiment still exists today though it can be used by either gender.  When you think of letting your hair down, think about coming home after a long day and relaxing.

How do you relax at the end of the day?  How do you let your hair down?
