Keep it 100

Keep it one hundred is a phrase used to show authenticity.  It may have come from keep it one hundred percent realKeeping it real is an older phrase which means, ‘be true to yourself’ (be authentic).  The phrase, keeping it real, was popularized in the Dave Chapelle’s sketch show.  It is really funny if you have the chance to watch it (linked below).  Before researching today’s phrase, I thought keep it 100 came from keep it 100% truthful.  While I haven’t found any evidence for this, it is also a fairly accurate way to understand this phrase.

Example: I’m going to keep it 100 with you.  I am late because I slept in.

Keeping it one hundred is often written with the 100 emoji.  Hundred is also usually abbreviated to hunnit, hunned or hundo.  While the phrase has been around for a while, it gained popularity over the past decade.

So, don’t be fake.  Keep it one-hunnit today.
